RULES OF THE CONTEST



I -PARTICIPATION - DISCIPLINES:

II REGISTRATION

The registration fee is 480 French Francs per Choreographer.

(payable by check or money order, and exclusively by money-order for foreign contestants).

Only choreographers who have paid their registration fee may participate in the contest.

This sum shall not be refunded under any circumstances for any reason whatsoever.


Each choreographer must:

1.- send in his registration form precisely and fully completed.

2.- enclose his resumé.

Applications for registration must be addressed to:

CHOREA Diffusion 25 Rue Ampère, 78100 Saint-Germain en Laye, France before the deadline. The orgnanizers reserve the right to close the registrations, without notice, if too many applications are received. .

III GENERAL SCHEDULE OF THE CONTEST


The contest will take place in 3 stages:

1.-All applicants must absolutely be present for screening in order to have possible access to the semi-final stage. Insofar as possible, the organizers shall establish the order of screening of applicants on the basis of the transportation requirements of the applicants travelling the greatest distance

2. - EACH choreographer shall receive a notice informing him of the time and date of rehearsal and screening, and he absolutely must comply with the instructions in this notice.
For the final dress rehearsal (November 3 and 4, 1999) the selected contestants shall be notified of the schedule that will have been defined. In order to be notified the contestants must contact the organizers without fail as soon as the results are announced.

Any change or delay, other than those due to the organizers, may result in elimination of the contestant.

3. - Each choreographer may present only one ballet, which shall be the same for the screening, the semi-final, and the final. The ballet presented must be an ORIGINAL CREATION, and may not have been presented in public before September 1998. Each group may represent several choreographers, and each choreographer must complete all registration formalities.

4. -The ballets must last no longer than 15 minutes.Any ballet that lasts longer shall be eliminated.
The music must be recorded on a cassette or CD. The tape must be blank, with no other recording on it. The title of the ballet and the name of the choreographer must be clearly indicated.
Prepare a copy of any cassette recording (one at the beginning of side A, and another at the beginning of side B).
The music may be played on the stage by accompanying musicians, but these musicians shall not be counted in the number of performing dancers.

5. -Minimum number of performers: 3 dancers. No age requirement for performers.
Non-compliance with the number of dancers shall result in elimination of the choreographer.

6. - The screening shall take place without costumes, in work clothes, the lighting being the same for all groups (full lights). Only indispensable accessories shall be allowed (eg. masks, skirts, ascots).
The semi-finals shall be in costumes. The final shall take place with costumes and lights. For the semi-finals and the finals, only decorations that can be handled by the dancers themselves and that do not require installation time greater than three minutes shall be tolerated.

7. -With a favourable opinion of the screening jury, contestants shall be admitted to compete for the PRIX VOLININE shall be final and confirmed by the organizers after each screening group, and only contestants accepted at the screening stage may participate in the semi-finals.

8. - The rehearsal schedules for the semi-finals and the finals, at the Théâtre Alexandre Dumas, shall be determined in agreement with the choreographers. No subsequent change shall be possible. Rehearsal with costumes and lights (according to the lighting plan supplied by the theatre).

9. - The cost of transportation and accommodations shall be covered entirely by the contestants, for the screening, semin-finals and finals.

10. - The liability of the organizers or of CHOREA Diffusion may not be engaged or claimed for any bodily injury or material damage caused or suffered by any person participating in the contest or accompanying such persons, during travel related to the contest, during performance of the choreographies, and in general, during presence on the premises where the contest is being held.

11. - The decisions of the jury shall be sovereign and final. The jury reserves the right not to award the PRIX VOLININE title. If the jury believes that one or several prizes may not be awarded or that the sharing of the prizes must be changed, the jury has the absolute power to do so.

12. - The stages of the contest may be filmed, televised or photographed (flash forbidden), at the free discretion of the organizers. In the event of a general broadcast concerning the contest as a pure news.event, report or promotion, the contestants may claim no royalties or trademark for the films, recordings or photographs broadcasted, or oppose any broadcast of their image, in conformity with laws in force (Law of July 3, 1985).

13. - All choreographers who have participated in the finals must be present on stage when the results are announced, the prize-winning performers must also be on stage at that time.

14. - In order that the contest take place properly and that other contestants be respected, each choreographer (or his representative) must absolutely confirm receipt of the notices sent by the secretariat of the contest, either by phoning 33.(0)1 39 73 09 24 or by faxing 33.(0)1 30 61 26 72.

15. -Participation in the contest requires acceptance by the contestants of all the rules of the contest and the waiver of all claims.

16. - Only the French version of the rules shall be used as a reference.

The precise, full list of prizes awarded shall be sent to the contestants when their registration in the contest is confirmed, no less than 60.000 FF.
